About

Imogen Morrell has been creating art pieces since 1985 and is a specialist mosaic artist based in Ely, Cambridgeshire. This coastal plain in Eastern England widely known as The Fenlands has been a constant source of inspiration for Imogen. The ever-changing pastel skies of East Anglia, the marshy wetland habitats of creatures big and small and the twisting ancient woodlands have been home to Imogen for her entire life. From Tolkin's Lord of The Rings and Pullmans Northern Lights, to the rolling mountains, wild forests and bioluminescent glow worm caves of New Zealand, Imogen has always found a fascination for fantasy. Her recent work captures the magic in nature through using unique hand-cut shapes, colours and found pieces to create multi-dimensional textures and patterns, cohered using flexible grout onto bespoke wooden boards.

Imogen is an avid lover of creatures, real and unreal. Her collection ‘endangered species’ memorialises endangered animals native to Britain who are threatened by extinction. This collection gives a voice to the voiceless and symbolises a need to protect and conserve the natural world.

Imogen is currently working on a new collection of mosaics directly relating to the Australian wildfires. Australia has identified 113 animal species which will need "urgent help" after their numbers and habitats were devastated by recent bushfires. Imogen is donating all funds raised from this collection to a charity helping to restore and protect these damaged forests.
